Laboratory Medicine: The Diagnosis of Disease in the Clinical Laboratory is a guide for medical students and practicing physicians to select the correct laboratory test and accurately interpret the results. It covers the entire field of clinical pathology, presented in the context of various disease states and body systems.

Chapters begin with a brief description of the disorder followed by a discussion that includes tables detailing the laboratory evaluation of specific disorders. Special features include full-color blood-smear micrographs demonstrating common abnormal morphologies of red blood cells, and a 13-page table of Clinical Laboratory Reference Values showing the conversions between U.S. and SI units for each value.

Although some of the material may be a review for practicing cllinical laboratory personnel, the editors have expanded their discussion of laboratory areas to include the current role of molecular pathology in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
